On Friday, August 22, 2025, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m., enjoy the sights and sounds of our nocturnal wildlife during a night hike in Backus Woods. We’ll look for flying squirrels, call for owls, identify the songs of various species of crickets and katydids, and attract late summer moths using light traps and baits. Maybe we’ll even howl like a coyote.
Where to meet: Meet at the parking lot at 1329 Concession Rd. 3.
Bring a bug jacket or bug spray as mosquitoes also like to come out to feed at sunset; and bring a flashlight or headlamp.

Meetings
Meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Simcoe Recreation Centre, Norfolk Room. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m.
Field Events
Various field outings are also planned throughout the year, and include trips to local conservation areas, bird banding, winter tree identification and much more. Field outings are free of charge.
