Event: Field Event–Fascinating Fungi: Fall Mushroom Hike

Join amateur mycologists, Inga and Leanne, for a wander through Backus Woods to look for fall mushrooms. They will identify and describe a wide variety of “’shrooms”, and you will learn about their ecological importance in local woodlands. Bring a camera as you are not allowed to harvest mushrooms on NCC properties.

Where to Meet: 1329 3rd Concession Road, Port Rowan (entrance to Backus Woods). It is located between East Quarter Line Road and Hwy. 59.

Note:

  • Hikes are free to the public. Limit is 20 participants
  • Pre-registration is required by emailing info@norfolkfieldnaturalists.org
  • Please wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather and hiking conditions
  • Carry water, bug spray, and sunscreen
  • Don’t forget your cellphone, camera, binoculars, and/or a field guide
  • No pets please

 

Meetings

Meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Simcoe Recreation Centre, Norfolk Room. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m.

Field Events

Various field outings are also planned throughout the year, and include trips to local conservation areas, bird banding, winter tree identification and much more. Field outings are free of charge.
